HEATHEN Guitarist Talks About Working With Late EXODUS Singer PAUL BALOFF
June 19, 2004Reunited San Francisco Bay Area thrash band HEATHEN recently took time to chat with Electricbasement.com about their new album "Recovered", as well as their history. Guitarist Lee Altus explained how the late EXODUS vocalist Paul Baloff was briefly a replacement for original vocalist Dave White. "Yeah, that was a very short moment of weakness," Lee said. "After the first album was out, our whole thing was Bay Area thrash and everybody liked more heavier singers, and in order to stand out, we thought, 'Hey we could do a lot more, we could stretch out, to decide to go into another direction or whatever.' But then, there was so much pressure from the fans around, 'We love your music but Dave's gotta go, you gotta get a new lead singer.' So we finally gave in, it was a big internal thing in the band, and Paul, he was just kicked out of EXODUS, and we thought, 'Okay, we'll give it a shot with Paul, the legend who cannot sing. We tried it, and it was obvious that it just was not for us. He was great with EXODUS, but he just wasn't for HEATHEN. So we went, tail between our legs, and went to Dave and asked him to come back. I'm glad we were able to work it out."
